In the world of marketing, social media has become one of the most essential platforms to expand the digital reach of your business. Having a social media presence for your business in 2022 is not just a cool luxury, it’s vital because so many people use social media today. Social media has become more mainstream than ever before, with people from many different age groups joining these platforms. There are so many platforms to choose from for your business, but which social media platforms are best for your business? Keep reading to learn why having each one of these platforms is beneficial for your business’s marketing strategy.
1. Facebook
If your company does not have Facebook Business Page yet, you could be missing out on untapped potential connections or possible clients. Facebook is home to over 2.8 billion monthly users, and it is the most popular social network in the world. Additionally, Facebook is the 3rd most visited website globally. There is an even spread of people of different age groups who use Facebook, with 25% of the users being between the ages of 25–34. Even though there is a wide variety of age groups who use Facebook, this is the most efficient platform for reaching Millenials and Gen-X.
Facebook has many features including posting pictures and videos onto both the Facebook newsfeed and Facebook stories, but there is so much more than that! For example, if your business has a niche audience, your page can join Facebook Groups in your niche so more people can see your page. If there isn’t a group for your niche already, create one! If you have an event, Facebook has a tool that will help you create and promote your event. For Facebook business accounts, there is also a feature called “Facebook Business Suite”. This tool allows you to schedule both organic (non-paid) and paid content for both Facebook and Instagram and automatically generates page and post analytics.
2. Instagram
Instagram and Facebook are both owned by Meta, these platforms go hand-in-hand. In the Facebook Business Suite, you can post content to both of these platforms simultaneously. Don’t get confused though, these are completely different platforms! Instagram has over 1.3 billion active users, and it is the 4th most popular social media platform globally. While Facebook is more geared towards Millennials and Gen-X (26–57-year-olds), Instagram is more popular among older Gen-Z and Millennials (18–41-year-olds).
One feature that Instagram has that Facebook doesn’t is Instagram Reels. Similarly to TikTok (see TikTok below), Instagram Reels shows users an endless amount of video content. Instagram is also popular for marketers looking to utilize influencer marketing. In fact, 73% of marketers prefer Instagram for influencer marketing. On Instagram stories, there are many “sticker” options that help users engage with your content. If your business hasn’t utilized Instagram yet, now is the time to do it. 3. TikTok
Over the past couple of years, TikTok has emerged as one of the most popular social media platforms in the world because of its endless amount of short video content. There are currently over 1 billion active users on the platform, and it took much less time for TikTok to reach this number than for Facebook. This is impressive because this excludes internet users in India, where the app is blocked. The majority of TikTok users are between the ages of 18–24, which makes TikTok a great platform for reaching Gen-Z. Because the app has become so popular among younger generations, businesses have flocked to the app to reach new audiences.
TikTok does not have nearly as many business features as Facebook and Instagram do, but that does not mean it isn’t good for your business marketing strategy. TikTok allows businesses and creators to purchase sponsored posts that would show up between other pieces of content on the “For You” page. For advertisements, there are also royalty-free sounds that businesses can use for their video advertisements. While TikTok is still relatively new to the world of social media marketing, it is definitely one that your business could utilize, especially if your company is a B2C company.
4. YouTube
Even though YouTube may not be the first platform you think about when discussing social media marketing, it is one that you should not ignore. YouTube is the second most popular social media platform, with over 2.2 billion users. YouTube is also the second most used search engine in the world (only second to Google). Over a billion hours of content is viewed every single day. So if your business hasn’t tried posting on YouTube yet, what are you waiting for?
YouTube provides businesses with options to create both organic and paid content. To purchase advertising space on YouTube, you need to go to Google Ads because Google bought YouTube back in 2006. Creating organic content is very simple. All you need to do is upload your video and then add keywords and a description so your video shows up via search engines. YouTube also has a new feature called “YouTube Shorts”, which runs in a similar fashion to TikTok. If there is something you want to show your potential customers on video, YouTube is the place to post it!
5. Twitter
Twitter has been around since 2006 and is considered one of the mainstream social media platforms. Discussion about what is happening in the world, pop culture gossip and trends begin on this platform. Twitter was also the creator of the “hashtag”. 83% of the world’s leaders are on Twitter, and the majority of users are between the ages of 25–49.
Businesses often use Twitter to announce important news, such as new product launches or other urgent information. To get the most engagement out of your Twitter post, using 1–2 hashtags will do the trick. Twitter has become a way for businesses and public figures to communicate with their audience, so it is a great idea for your business to get on Twitter if you are not already!
These are just a few of the many social media platforms out there that your business can utilize.
